WOW Compare is challenging UK households to join the #CostOfLivingChallenge to cut household bills
There are better deals out there for energy, broadband, mobiles and other services, if you are out of contract for any of these services, we urge you to compare prices and consider switching to a cheaper deal.
April is notoriously the month that service providers increase prices for broadband, mobiles and other services, taking advantage of permitted in-contract price increases.
Broadband services applying mid-contract price rises in April included: BT, EE, O2, Sky, Three, Virgin Media and Vodafone. Some broadband companies hiked prices by as much as 8.8%, increasing a £25 monthly bill to over £27 per month. Mobile phone networks have also been applying mid-contract price increases for many customers.
Increases are usually based on retail price index (RPI) or consumer price index (CPI), around 3.9%, plus 3% to 4% to account for inflation and increased business costs.
Customer often won’t notice these increases until bills arrive in May, but it looks like many will be hit with rises of 7% or 8% on monthly bills.

Standard variable rates have been falling since the start of 2024, another reduction in the energy price cap is good news for households looking to fix energy prices in the next few months, as more energy companies introduce cheaper fixed price tariffs .
EDF & Utility Warehouse recently launched their lowest ‘fixed rate’ energy tariffs since 2021. There are some money saving deals out there, however energy prices are still higher than before the energy crisis, with the average household on dual fuel still paying over £100 per month on electricity & gas.
